What Travel Essentials Do you Really Need?

When we travel there are many necessitates/essentials that we often forget. Typically, we remember the big ones, like our passport and or boarding pass, hopefully. But then there are little travel essentials that we neglect such as, headphones, eye masks, portable chargers, chapsticks. So, here is a list I made to find what travel essentials are truly ESSENTIAL when traveling and other things that can be left behind.

In this post you will learn all about different travel essentials, travel essentials for women, travel essentials for men, travel essentials for Europe, travel essentials gifts, international travel essentials, a travel essentials list, travel essentials for long flights, different travel essentials toiletries, different travel essentials carry-on, and much more.

This post is all about travel essentials.

1. Travel Essentials List : Passport

Now, for traveling internationally, you DEFINITELY NEED a passport. I believe you even need one now for traveling domestically in the United States, or at least an enhanced license. Thus, this ins’t really an essential but more of a CRUCIAL document you need, just like your boarding pass. Please, don’t forget either your passport, enhanced license, and boarding pass.

2. Travel Essentials List : Phone

Now, I hate to be that annoying millennial, but I think bringing your phone anywhere, in today’s world, is pretty important. Really, just so people have a way to communicate with you, is why I recommend bringing your phone when you travel. Also, a lot of places now use your phone as your ticket. In addition, to all the navigating, reserving, booking, cool apps to find fun activities, and more that your phone allows you to do.

3. Travel Essentials List : Portable Charger/Adapter for Other Countries

Speaking of phones, this brings me to another essential item, that most people tend to forget about, a portable charger. There have been multiple times where I have forgotten this, and have REALLY needed it. Even just going on day trips to music festivals or hiking, I ALWAYS want a portable charger. So, yes I HIGHLY recommend this. They are pretty inexpensive too, and you can find them at Target, Walmart, and Amazon, and most of them are pretty light-weight and small for convenient storing.

Now, when traveling to other countries you will need to bring different charging outlets for your electronics. You can lookup what charging adapter you need, for the country or region you’re traveling to and then again, Amazon or Walmart should have the charging adapters you need.

4. Headphones

Now, if you are on a flight, headphones, in my opinion, are ESSENTIAL. Some airlines do offer free headphones, however, they are not the best quality, and they aren’t compatible with most phones anymore. They really only fit the tv in front of you if you get a tv on your flight. You can buy adapters for your phone to avoid this if you wish. Or bring your own headphones and or AirPods/earbuds. However, if you are trying to save space, definitely just bring your AirPods or something similar.

5. Carry – On Backpack or Suitcase

I always like to have both a backpack and suitcase when I travel, typically when I fly. However, make sure if you’re flying, you have the right SIZE. I believe the carry-on limit for bags is 18 x 14 x 8 inches and for suitcases is 22 x 14 x 9, totaling 45 inches for height plus width and plus depth. However, I would check your airline when flying, to make sure of the size limits. I’ve heard great things about this personal/carry-on backpack from Amazon that a lot of my friends use.

6. Deodorant, Portable Toothbrush, Sunscreen, & Chapstick

Now, deodorant and or perfume are great things to have, especially the travel sized deodorant and perfume when flying. You can get roll on perfume that is great and under the fluid ounce limit for airplanes. Also, you can get some great portable/small toothbrushes and travel sized toothpaste at Target and or Amazon. Sunscreen is always a good idea to help prevent early aging from the sun. Lastly, NEVER forget the Chapstick!! All of these are great travel essential toiletries.

7. Eye Mask And Or Blanket

Depending on what mode of transportation you are taking, there are different eye masks you can get. When flying or taking a train, I recommend bringing this eye mask that ties to the back of your seat, so you don’t bob your neck up and down when falling asleep. If you are traveling by car then this eye mask is much better and you can always bring a pillow for the car ride. Also, in the car you can bring a blanket, now for flights/train rides, I would wear leggings and a sweatshirt. I DO NOT recommend a neck pillow on flights. They have never helped me while flying. Honestly, I feel more uncomfortable with the neck pillows.

8. Travel Essentials for Women

Now, for all us women, a great way to save space in your carry-on is to bring a reusable menstrual cup instead of a million tampons. Also, you can buy reusable period pads. I bought mine off of Amazon. However, the menstrual cup, I bought from Lunette, which I love. I haven’t had to buy period products in almost three years, and it has been fantastic. I highly recommend!

9. Water Bottle, Travel Sized Umbrella & Sunglasses

Now, if you are flying, you will have to bring an empty water bottle or buy one after security. I’m sure wherever you go, it’s likely you’ll hit some rain, so a little travel sized umbrella is great thing to bring. You can put it in one of your backpack pockets. A light rain jacket is also a good idea. Lastly, even if you’re going to a cold destination, I still bring sunglasses.

10. Traveling Cubes

Traveling or packing cubes are a great way to keep your clothes organized in your suitcase. I love my packing cubes, as more of a messy person, they really help me with organization. Also, travel capsules are great for your toiletries.
