Best AirBnBs in Upstate New York
The Maisonette at North Creek
The North Creek Maisonette is one of a kind! Located in downtown North Creek, NY, it is only 4 minutes away from Gore Mountain, the largest ski area in New York state. It is right above a wine bar (check their Instagram for hours), plus an outdoor clothing store (Crossroads), in case you forget anything for your skiing or hiking trip. All of this being said, the Maisonette at North Creek truly is a GREAT mountain getaway home.
The Maisonette has 3 different bedrooms (one with bunk beds, and two other bedrooms with queen sized beds), a HUGE fully equipped kitchen (to make your own meals), one bathroom, a beautiful/huge living room with Netflix, a fireplace, a huge outdoor porch, a washer and dryer, lots of blankets, and plenty of parking. This place LITERALLY has it all! It is great for you and your family or friends to come stay and ski/hike or do anything outdoorsy! They even have many different promotions with different local places, such as Beaver Brook Outfitters (great for rafting). Truly, if you are in need of an escape to the mountains, come stay at the North Creek Maisonette.
Because of the downtown location the Maisonette, is next to MANY different restaurants, shops, and eateries. Such as Cafe Sarah (GREAT for coffee or cocoa after or before skiing), Izzy’s Market & Deli, Marsha’s Family Restaurant, and Hey Day Pizza are all great places located in downtown North Creek. There’s also a grocery store downtown, if you prefer making your own meals instead. Also, the town of Chestertown is pretty close (22 minutes away), and has some great places to eat like the Panther Mountain Inn for pizza. Chestertown also has a great sledding and beginner hill for skiers and snowboarders, called Dynamite Hill. Kipp Mountain is also a great beginner mountain for new hikers. It is located just down the road from Dynamite Hill.
As I previously mentioned, the Maisonette is only 4 minutes away from New York’s largest ski area, Gore Mountain. It has a total of 110 ski trails, seven different mountain areas, and a 2,547 foot vertical. It is quite the mountain, and quite the place to explore and ski/snowboard at. The North Creek Ski bowl is also a great place to downhill or cross-country ski (also a part of Gore Mountain, just separate locations) at. They also offer tubbing and twilight skiing here. If you want another mountain to explore, Whiteface, is only an hour and 20 minutes away (driving), which has the biggest vertical foot drop on the east coast (3,430ft). You can also visit downtown Lake Placid, which is only 15 minutes from the mountain.
Now, if you want to do some hiking instead, there are TONS of places nearby. Indian Lake, Long Lake, and Blue Mountain Lake are only 30 minutes to an hour away. Some cool places in Indian Lake to hike are Watch Hill (beginner trail), and Snowy Mountain Fire Tower (advanced). In Blue Mountain Lake, two of my favorite hikes are Castle Rock (beginner-moderate, and on private land, but you can park there) and Blue Mountain Fire Tower (moderate trail). In addition, only 15 minutes away, is Peak Mountain in the Siamese Pond Wilderness and 13th Lake. This is seriously one of my FAVORITE hikes in the area and ever, it’s SOOO pretty, and not too many people know about it. You can also kayak/canoe and/or swim at 13th Lake. There are even some waterfalls to see, like Ok Slip Falls and Buttermilk Falls. In addition, there are some high peaks about an hour away, such as the whole Santanoni Range and Allen Mountain.
For even more hiking, you could either go an hour north to the Keene Valley region, to hike the AMAZING High Peaks or you could travel 40 minutes southeast to Bolton Landing and Lake George at the Tongue Mountain Range (and much more). You could also take a day trip to Lake George and rent a boat and cruise the waters and relax in the sun at Angus Island and go cliff jumping!
Also, there is an old railroad track that has been turned into a pedal-powered rail bike called the Revolution Railway. You can either go as a party of two or four, and bike together along different areas of North Creek and the Adirondacks along your 6 mile journey of fun. You can even bring your own drinks with you too if you want to get a little frisky. Also, the Hub in Brant Lake, has bicycles for rent that you can take on MANY different bike/rail trails within the area. Brant Lake is about 40 minutes away. There’s also TONS of lakes to kayak/canoe or white water raft at (North Creek Rafting Company and Beaver Brook Outfitters).
This area and AirBnB really has so much to offer. When I stayed here I really did have a great time and hope you do too if you’re thinking of spending some time in North Creek. Whether you’re a winter or summer lover, fall or spring person, the Maisonette has every season and outdoor activity covered for you to have a wonderful time.
