The Top Things to do in Bali While Visiting
Bali, what a place to be! Bali, is so beautiful, and filled with waterfalls, rice fields, monkeys, beaches, amazing people, Bali really is the full experience. When I studied abroad in Australia, I visited Bali for a couple days with my friends. We saw everything from elephants to monkeys, to amazing food and coffee, to breathtaking sceneries, temples, and waterfalls. Here are the best things to do in Bali when you are visiting.
In addition, to learning about the best things to do in Bali, you will also read about things to do in Bali with friends, Bali, Ubud, things to do in Bali with family, the Uluwatu Temple, unique things to do Bali, and the best cheap things to do Bali.
This post is all about things to do in Bali.
Things to do in Bali:
1. Stay at a 5 Star Hotel
Okay, the first thing I recommend doing while in Bali, is to stay at a 5 Star Hotel. I say this, because the hotels are CHEAP in Bali, even the 5 star hotels. Seriously, you can get super cheap 5 star hotels, for less than $100 a night in Bali. Also, when I went to Bali, the hotel we stayed at, served us AMAZING brunch, that had anything and everything to eat. They served local food, to waffles, and pancakes, to omelets, to chicken wings, they really had everything. This is definitely one of the best cheap things to do in Bali.
2. Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary
Go to Ubud to see the famous monkey forest. You can walk through the forest and feed the monkeys with bananas while you are there.

3. Elephant Sanctuary
Next on our list, I recommend going to an elephant sanctuary. Unfortunately, when I went, my friends, I rode an elephant. Looking back, and doing some research, places that offer elephant rides, treat their elephants horribly. They beat, chain, and harm the elephants they have. Thus, I wish I hadn’t been apart of that. And, I would suggest going to an elephant sanctuary instead. And MAKE SURE you do your research before you go to the sanctuary, because, some places try and pose as elephant sanctuaries, to make money, but in reality, they are harming the elephants just as much as the elephant rides. One elephant sanctuary I recommend is the the elephant jungle sanctuary. However, this is located in Thailand. They do have a couple different locations within Thailand, and you can get an easy flight from Bali, to Phuket, which is about a 4 hour flight.
4. Hire a Drive for the Day or Week
When I was in Bali, my friends and I, reserved a driver, who drove us around the island, to get to where we wanted to go, such as the different rice fields, temples, and monkey forests. And it was about $40 a day, altogether. Which is a GREAT deal, especially, split between 5 people, you can’t go wrong. However, if you want even more of an experience, you can rent motorized bikes, for the day or week. But just beware, the rules of the road are much different compared to the US.
5. Go to One of the Many Beaches
There are SO many beaches to choose from in Bali! I would go to Nusa Dua Beach, Balangan Beach, Bias Tugel Beach, Padang Beach, Dream Beach in Nusa Lembogan, Canggu Beach, or Pandawa Beach. All of these beaches look like something straight out of a beach vacation paradise. Also, this article gives even more beaches to visit, and if you scroll down, it recommends places to stay at too.
6. Go to a Temple
Next, I would go to one of the many temples and rice fields. When visiting the different temples, there is a specific dress code, when entering them. Most of them, you cannot show your legs at. At some of the temples they offer you wraps, to put around your waist to wear, however, some do not. Thus, make sure you have some sort of wrap or skirt, covering your legs, from hip to toe. One of the temples my friends and I traveled to was the, Tirta Empul Temple. It was really cool, it had many different water fountains, statues, flowers, trees, and a beautiful setting all around. Also, we went to the Tegalalang Rice Fields. Which was spectacular to witness as well. I also recommend going to the Uluwatu Temple.
7. Go on a Hike
Now, unfortunately, I didn’t get to any hikes when I was in Bali. But, I have come across, many, since then, that when I get back to Bali, I really want to climb. Such as, Mount Batur (actually a volcano), Mount Agung (also a volcano),and Mount Catur (another volcano). Here are some more great looking hikes and walks to accomplish while in Bali.
8. Go on a Tea or Coffee Tasting
This is definitely a unique thing to do in Bali, but I would still recommend going on a tea or coffee tasting. There are also plenty of food and wine tours all throughout Bali, if you’re not a coffee or tea person. There’s a lot of different cooking classes they offer in Bali too, which is a fun unique way to try out the local food in Bali. Also, I suggest eating at Bebek Bengil for some local food in Ubud.
9. Stay in a Treehouse
If you want to stay at a treehouse and live out your childhood dream, there are plenty of places to do that in Bali. And if treehouses aren’t your thing, no problem, because there’s tons of luxury, beautiful, relaxing beach villas to stay at as well. Here are some great ones.
10. Learn How to Surf
I would learn how to surf at Canggu beach. Canggu beach has some of the cheapest rentals and surf lessons available to take, as well as, Kuta beach.
11. Go Snorkeling or Muck Diving
Go snorkeling or try muck diving! Muck diving is like regular diving, only the sea bottom that you encounter is sandy, hence the name, “muck diving.” Here are some great places to go to, however, you might want to look into getting your diving certified before you go. Most places you can get certified at, so it’s not a huge deal if you’re not certified before you go, but it just makes it easier.
12. Check Out the Many Different Waterfalls
Also, don’t forget to check out all the amazing waterfalls in Bali. Here are some that again, look breathtaking!
13. Go to the Different Islands
Next, I would go to all the vast different islands surrounding Bali, here are some that look incredible.
14. Go to a Spa
Also, spas are really cheap in Bali. When I was there, I got a full body massage, manicure, and pedicure for only 15 US dollars. It’s such a good deal.
15. Do a LOT of Yoga
Bali is the perfect scenery for YOGA. A great place for some classes are at the Yoga Barn. If you’re staying longer or really enjoy yoga, you could become yoga certified, as a teacher, while you’re there. Bali has a lot of different yoga classes, certifications, and retreats to choose from, it’s also the perfect place to practice yoga, so why not.
16. Go to a Turtle Sanctuary
Lastly, I recommend going to a turtle sanctuary. They have one on the Serangan Island, near the coastal town of Sanur.
And that wraps up our list of the best things to do in Bali, Indonesia. I hope this was helpful, and you learned some fun new things you can do while in an amazing new place. Thank you for reading, and I hope you travel to Bali sometime in the near future!
