Vail Colorado Ski Resorts

A Skier’s Paradise

Vail, Colorado is a MUST on any skier’s/snowboarder’s bucket- list. Although, if you are an avid skier, like myself, I’m sure this EPIC mountain is already on your list. Fortunately, I have been able to ski at Vail, a couple times now, and absolutely, love it. It is worth all the hype, I must say.

Although, if you are not a fan of “richie rich” places, you don’t have to worry. Vail owns/operates TONS of different ski resorts/mountains. With the Epic Pass, you have access to MANY different resorts all within the US. So, let’s get started with all the trails to ski, and all the mountains that make up the STUPENDOUS, VAIL!

So, to get to Vail, depending on where you are coming from, I recommend flying to the Denver airport, or driving. If you are flying, there are many different shuttles that will drive you from the airport to Vail. It is about an hour and a half away from the Denver airport, and most places, especially resorts, will offer a shuttle ride to and from the airport.

However, you can also easily rent a car from the airport, especially if you plan on going to a couple different mountains. Also, if flying, I recommend checking your boot bag and then carrying a carry-on sized suitcase. Then once you get to the mountain, at one of the rental shops, demoing an awesome new pair of skis/snowboards. This way, you don’t have to lug your skis around the airport, or risk losing them.

Also, most of the rental/demo shops will have pretty good package deals for ski/snowboard gear. Also, you get to ride new skis/snowboards for a quarter of the price, so you can in the future, pick out a pair you really like.

When my dad and I went to Vail, we stayed at a nearby condo, located right outside the Vail village. But there are LOADS of condos/resorts, you can stay at here and some great AirBnB’s, here. Also, you could stay at, Avon, CO, which is only 15 minutes from Vail, and is cheaper, but you will need a car to get to the mountain.

Alright, let’s get to the stats of Vail! Vail has 195 trails, over 3,000 acres of backside bowls, over 1,600 acres of frontside terrain, over 600 acres of Blue Sky Basin, 31 different lifts, and a total elevation of 11,570 feet. Talk about quite the mountain! Here are some more facts and tips about the mountain and it’s terrain, if you are interested. Now let’s talk about the different trails of the mountain!

I highly recommend skiing Blue Sky Basin and all Vails bowls. They have seven different bowls, all offering POWDER upon POWDER and AWESOME terrain! The different bowls are, Northwoods, Game Creek, China, Sun up and Sun Down, Siberia and Mongolia (good for moguls or bumps). On some days, they have different free tours, showing you how to get to Blue Sky Basin, and more of the mountain.

Now, in addition, to Vail, Vail owes and operates SO many more mountains. Specifically, in Colorado, they owe and operate, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Park City, Keystone, and Crested Butte. On the west coast, they operate, Heavenly, Northstar, Kirkwood, and Stevens Pass. And on the east coast, they run Stowe, Okemo, Mount Snow, Hunter, Wildcat, Attitash, Mount Sunapee, and Crotched.

A little further south, they operate, Liberty, Roundtop, Whitetail, Jack Frost and Big Boulder. In the midwest, Wilmot, Brighton, Alpine Valley, Boston Mills and Brandywine, Mad River, Hidden Valley, Snow Creek, and Paoli Peak. And in Canada, Whistler Blackcomb, and lastly, in Australia, yes, Australia, Perisher, Falls Creek, and Hotham. Do you see what I mean now, by the EPICNESS that is, Vail?! Vail, truly offers more than ANY ski resort out there.

Okay, so if you’re not much of a skier or snowboarder, there are still plenty of things you can do while staying in Vail. Specifically, in the winter, you can, snowshoe, cross-country ski, winter hike, ski-bike, dog sled, ice skate, tube, and/or ride the Mountain Coaster.

Lastly, if you want to come back and experience Vail in the summer, you SURE can! There are just as many fun things to do in the summer as the winter. Some of the awesome activities include, hiking, biking, Mountain Coaster Riding, fishing, rock climbing, camping/backpacking, canyoning, white water rafting, and much more!

And that wraps up our information about Vail, Colorado! I hope you learned some new info about where to go and what to see, and most importantly, new places of where to ski/ride. Thank you for reading and take care!
