The Complete Guide to Magic Mountain Vermont

Magic Mountain Vermont is a great, scrappy, little, hidden gem in Vermont! Magic is located in Londonderry, Vermont. It is about two hours and fifteen minutes from Burlington, VT and about an hour and a half from Albany/Capital region of New York. Other mountains that are close by are Stratton, Bromley, Manchester, VT, Okemo, and Ludlow, VT. Magic is a great, funky little mountain, good for families and people who like glades. Also, both skiers and snowboarders are welcomed here.

Since, Magic Mountain is about two hours and twenty minutes from Burlington, I suggest staying in Londonderry or Manchester, VT. Magic does have cheaper lift tickets compared to other mountains, being about $99 a day. However, it does only have two chair lifts, so I would only go when it’s gotten a lot of snow and NOT on a busy day, aka a weekend or holiday. Otherwise, you will be waiting in LONG lift lines.

This mountain doesn’t have any lodging right on the mountain, but there are many nearby hotels and AirBnBs. Some nice hotels near Magic Mountain are Toll Road Inn, The Lodge at Bromley, Castle Hill Resort and Spa, The Pointe at Castle Hill, Aspen at Manchester, and more that you can find here. Also, I would suggest staying in Manchester, Londonderry, or Ludlow, VT. There’s also different AirBnBs and HipCamps that you could find.

Magic Mountain Resort

This mountain has a total of 50 (marked) trails, 11 glades, a summit elevation of 2,850ft, and a longest run of 1.6 miles. Magic Mountain vertical drop is 1,500ft, with a 45° angle on the steepest trail. Along with skiing and snowboarding, Magic Mountain Vermont tubing is a lot of fun. I would say their tubing is more for families with smaller kids, but it’s still a fun thing to do if you’re older.

Magic Mountain does offer equipment rentals. They recommend renting your equipment online in advance, so you can ensure they’ll have equipment ready and in stock for you when you get to the mountain. They also offer different lessons based on your level of experience, depending on if it’s your first time ever or if you’ve had some lessons before. In addition, they have different FAQs under the rental section, that should answer a lot of your questions when it comes to lessons and rentals, such as, do I need to buy a lift ticket when I booked a lesson, etc.

Lastly, in the summer Magic Mountain Vermont hiking is a lot of fun. They have a nice hiking trail on the mountain called, the Wardrobe Loop, that is about 1.8 miles total. They also offer disc golf in the summer, which is a mix between mini golf and ultimate Frisbee. Lastly, Magic doesn’t offer camping, but you can rent the mountain for big events such as, weddings, company events, parties, etc.

Magic Mountain Vermont Lift Tickets

Magic Mountain Vermont lift tickets are a little more reasonable than other Vermont ski mountains. However, keep in mind, Magic Mountain is a smaller mountain compared to others, and it only has two chair lifts. Thus, it makes sense that their lift tickets are a little less pricey. An average lift ticket at Magic on a weekend is about $99. If you buy your tickets online sometimes they are cheaper. Also, if you buy the Indy Pass, Magic Mountain is apart of it.

Magic Mountain Vermont Trail Map : Beginner Runs

Okay, onto the fun part, the trails! Here I will talk about the different trails you can ski/snowboard at Magic Mountain VT! There are two sides to the mountain, the West and East sides. Also, the quad chair lift, that is on the mountain almost never runs, so really there’s only two working chair lifts. When it’s crowded, seeing this lift not running, is SUPER frustrating. So, I really would try and ski/snowboard Magic on a weekday or non-crowded day, because otherwise, you’re going to be waiting AWHILE. If you are a beginner, I would stay on the East side of the mountain, as there are a lot of green and blues there. While the West side has a lot of diamonds and double diamonds.

As a beginner, I would stay on the double chair all the way to skier’s left (if you’re on the mountain, it’s to your left). This will bring you about halfway up the mountain, and it’s where you will find more greens and blues. Some nice greens from this lift are Wand then into Kinderspiel. From the top of the mountain, the other double chair, some more greens are, Upper Magic Carpet into Lower Magic Carpet into 33rd & 3rd. Now, if you are a first time skier or snowboarder, I would stay on the lower level, all the way to your right. You will find a Magic Carpet and the T-bar. And stay on Little Dipper and Rabbit Run.

Magic Mountain Vermont Trail Map : Intermediate Runs

Okay, moving onto intermediate runs, some fun intermediate runs from the top (middle double chair lift) are White Out, and Pixie Dust. Some more difficult blues from the top are Upper Wizard and Trick. Some nice lower mountain blues are Up Your Sleeve, Medium, Vertigo, Mystery, Thorner’s Corner, Phoenix, Show-off, Carumba, and Lower Wizard.

Magic Mountain Vermont Trail Map : Advanced & Expert Runs

Some fun diamonds at Magic are Broomstick (into Heart of Magician), Talisman, Sorcerer, and Potter, these are all via the Upper Wizard Trail from the top of the mountain. Now, all the rest of the groomed expert runs are double diamonds. When I skied at Magic I didn’t ski any of these, I stuck to the glades, so I can’t give a good opinion on them, as to, if they are accurately rated or if their “easy” double blacks. But the double black groomed runs (from the top) are Witch, Magician, Red Line, Pitch Black, and Black Magic.

What I really like about Magic Mountain and why I think it’s worth a trip is the glades! In my opinion, Magic does have a lot of really fun glades. Most of their glades are rated as double diamonds, and I think for most of them, that is an accurate rating, however, there are some that are “easier” double diamonds. The “easier” double diamonds in the glades are Slide of Hans, The Wardrobe, Green Line, Warlock, Disappearing Act (diamond), and Séance (diamond).

Okay, the more difficult glades (actual double diamonds) on this mountain are, White Tiger, Twilight Zone, Goniff Glade, and Voodoo. Here is an actual trail map of Magic.

Overall, I really do like Magic Mountain, but please, if you can, ski/snowboard Magic on a weekday. You will have a MUCH better time. Since, it really only has 2 working chair lifts, lift lines get really crowded on the weekends. Otherwise, if you love glades, this will be a really fun mountain for you. Thank you so much for reading, take care, and I hope you have a great ski/snowboard season!
