The Best Skiing Movies to Get You Pumped For the Season
Alpine skiing is one of my favorite winter sports, and one way I get excited for the upcoming season is by watching different skiing films and my favorite YouTube skiers/snowboarders. They are a great way to get you excited for the winter season and pumped for the upcoming snow. There are plenty of YouTube videos, Warren Miller’s films, and more to watch, which I will talk about in this post.
In this article, you will read about different skiing movies, where to watch them, Warren Miller ski movies, skiing movies on Netflix, skiing movie comedy, skiing movies from the 90s, classic ski movies, ski movies documentaries, skiing movies YouTube, freestyle skiing movies, and more.
This post is all about skiing movies.
Skiing Movies:
Warren Miller Ski Movies
Probably the most well known ski movies are Warren Miller films. He does a GREAT job at encapsulating the essence of skiing and how fun it is. He usually puts out one film per year. They are documentary styled, filled with mountains, powder, and TONS of skiing with the BEST places to ski! They are the best ski movies as documentaries, in my opinion. Here are some of his films.
- Chasing Shadows
- Children of Winter
- Off the Grid
- Timeless
- Winter Stars Now
- Daymaker
- All Time
- And MANY more that you can find here!
Skiing Movie Comedy
Now, there aren’t any skiing films on Netflix or most of the streaming services, a lot of skiing pictures that have an actually story line have to do with snowboarding or are documentaries. There are some foreign films that involve skiing and that are not documentaries. But this list has some skiing and snowboarding films that involve the two sports.
- Chalet Girl (romantic comedy about snowboarding)
- Copper Mountain (skiing comedy)
- Hot Dog…The Movie (skiing comedy)
- Downhill (skiing comedy)
- Everest (not a comedy, about hiking Mount Everest)
- Two for the Win (skiing comedy)
- Slalom (foreign film about skiing)
Skiing Movies From the 80s
Again, all these movies are documentary style films. Seeing these films from the 80s is a nice way to see how skiing/winter sports have evolved.
- Steep & Deep (documentary)
- License to Thrill (Greg Stump film on YouTube)
- The Blizzard of Aahhh’s (Greg Stump film on YouTube)
- Fire and Ice
- Beyond the Edge (Documentary)
- Ski People (Documentary)
Skiing Movies 90s
Now, these four films have actual plot lines involving skiing and or snowboarding. As you can see the most skiing motion pictures (that aren’t documentaries) were made in the 90s. I don’t know why they stopped (probably because it’s too expensive to film and or hard to find actors good enough to ski, or liability issues) filming movies about skiing and or snowboarding. But here are some fun ones from the 90s.
- Johnny Tsunami (snowboarding)
- Aspen Extreme
- Ski Patrol
- Downhill Willie
Classic Ski Movies (Documentaries)
- Apocalypse Snow (French Film)
- Downhill Racer
- Eddie the Eagle
- McConkey (documentary)
- Winterland (documentary)
- Higher Ground (documentary)
Skiing Movies YouTube
Many of the skiing documentaries listed above you can find on YouTube to watch. However, there are a TON of skier and snowboarder YouTubers, that I watch, again, to get me pumped for the season. Here are some of my favorite skier and snowboarder YouTubers.
- Johnathan Buckhouse (snowboarder)
- Halfcabking (snowboarder)
- Craig McMorris (snowboarder)
- Abe Kislevitz (skier)
- O_leeps (skier)
- PeakRankings (skiing)
- GoPro Channel (both)
- Red Bull Snow Channel (both)
- brooke_themountainsarecalling (my channel, skier)
And that wraps our post about the best skiing movies to get you excited for the ski season! As you can see, the movie titles are sparse, meaning we need to make more skiing videos. So, maybe you can be that person to make another amazing, fun film. Thank you so much for reading and have an awesome winter!
